Rank the purchase drivers that actually move your category

Market share tells you the score. Sena asks the people who already chose, ranks what decided it, and shows which lever is connected to the number.

Backed by NVIDIA Inception, Techstars, and Plug and Play. Every reason comes from a consumer describing a purchase they made, shared as zero-party data with their consent. A multi-step QA flow checks each signal before it becomes a decision.
The problem

You know your share moved. The reason sits with the people who chose, and the answer stays with them.

What Sena decides

Which drivers rank first in each market and segment, and which lever moves the number.

The problem

Share moves against you in one market and holds in the next. The question that follows usually gets one of three answers, and each one is a bet on a driver nobody measured.

Cut the price

This assumes price decided it. Where availability decided it, you have given up margin and changed the outcome very little.

Spend more on advertising

This assumes awareness or preference decided it. Where the product was absent from the shelf, the spend reaches people who had nothing to buy.

Widen store coverage

This assumes the product was missing. Where it was on the shelf and passed over, you have added stores to a preference problem.

Market share tells you the score. A ranked driver model tells you which lever is connected to it.

How it works

How Sena ranks purchase drivers

01
BOUGHT: ITEM AWEIGHED: B AND CWHY: IT WAS THEREWOULD MOVE: PRICE A PAST PURCHASE

Open with the purchase that happened

Sena Consumer Activity asks consumers what they bought, what else they weighed, why they picked it, and what would move them. The subject is a decision they already made.

02
1 AVAILABILITY2 PRICE3 TASTE4 BRAND TRUST 41%29%18%12%

Rank the drivers

Sena turns the answers into an ordered model for that category, market, and demographic: what came first, what came second, and by how much.

03
PRICEAVAILABILITYBRAND 38%34%28% GROUPED BY THE DRIVER THAT LED

Cluster the market by driver

Consumers decide differently from each other, so Sena groups them by the driver that led. You get the size of each group and what it looks like.

04
SAID: PRICE $1.10$0.95$1.20 CHECKED AGAINST THE SHELF IN FRONT

Test it against the store

Sena Computer Vision reads what was actually available and at what price where those consumers shop, so a stated driver gets checked against the choice in front of them.

05
CUT PRICEADVERTISEWIDEN COVERAGE RANK 2 · SPEND HIGHRANK 3 · SPEND HIGHRANK 1 · COVERAGE THIN THE SHORTEST PATH TO SHARE

Choose the lever

Sena reads the ranking against your coverage and your marketing spend, and names the lever with the shortest path to the share you want.

Drivers move with occasion and channel as well as with market, so the same category can rank price first in one channel and convenience first in another.

Sena Consumer ActivityCore. Consumers describe a purchase they made: what they chose, what they considered, what decided it, and what would move them next time. Every answer is zero-party data.
Sena (Decision AI)Core. It builds the ranked driver model by segment, market, and channel, sizes each group, and reads the ranking against your sales, coverage, and marketing spend.
Sena Computer VisionContextual. It reads what was available and at what price in the stores those consumers use, so a stated driver can be checked against the real choice.
Sena Connect and IntegrationsCore. Brings in your sales by territory and channel, your marketing spend by market, and your coverage data, by CSV or Excel upload.

The ranking comes from what people say decided it. The store read is what keeps a stated reason honest.

SHARE THAT SOMETHING CHANGED

The outcome, by market and period, in numbers your team already trusts. It tells you that something changed.

Why teams trust Sena

01

Get decision-ready answers fast

A demo takes about 20 minutes. For most use cases, the first decisions land days after kickoff.

02

The ranking holds per segment

Each group is sized and reported separately, so a driver that leads for a quarter of the market stays visible in its own right.

03

A stated reason gets checked against the shelf

Sena reads what was available where those consumers shop, so a reason survives contact with the choice they actually had.

FAQs

01 What are purchase drivers?
Purchase drivers are the reasons a consumer picks one product over the alternatives in front of them: price, availability, brand trust, pack, taste, recommendation, and routine. Purchase decision drivers rank against each other, so the useful output is an order, where a flat list hides which one led. The driver that leads in one market often sits third in the next.
02 What are the key purchase drivers in a category?
It depends on the category and the market, which is the point of measuring it. Across consumer goods the key purchase drivers usually reduce to four: what it costs, whether it was there, whether the buyer trusts it, and whether they always buy it. Where a category is commoditised, the marginal driver decides share, and it is rarely the one the plan assumes.
03 What are purchase drivers examples?
Purchase drivers examples split into rational and situational. Rational: price per unit, pack size, ingredient or spec, warranty. Situational: the product was in the cooler by the till, the usual choice was out of stock, a friend recommended it, the display was at eye level. Situational drivers are the ones share data hides completely, because the numbers record the outcome and skip the aisle.
04 What are the emotional drivers of purchase?
The emotional drivers of purchase are the ones a consumer feels before reasoning about: trust, familiarity, status, reassurance, and belonging. They rank alongside price, and often above it, especially in categories where the products sit close on spec. Sena captures them by asking about the choice that was made, in the consumer’s own words, before offering any prompt.
05 How is purchase driver analysis different from market share data?
Share data reports the result. Driver analysis reports the cause, ranked, per segment. Both are needed, and they answer different questions: share tells you a change happened, and the driver model tells you which lever is connected to it. Acting on share alone means choosing a lever by assumption.
06 Do purchase drivers differ by generation?
Yes, and the difference usually sits in the order more than in the list itself. Gen z purchase drivers tend to weight recommendation and values higher, while price still ranks near the top in most categories. The practical answer is to size each group and report it separately, since a segment that decides differently from the majority can still hold a quarter of the market.
07 Do purchase drivers differ by category?
Yes, and the gap is wide. Smartphone purchase drivers weight specification, price, and the plan attached to the handset, and the decision runs over weeks. A snack bought at a till runs in seconds, on availability and habit-level familiarity. A driver model is only useful when it is built for one category, in one market, at a time.
08 How does Sena rank purchase drivers?
Sena asks consumers about a purchase they actually made, then orders the reasons by how much each one carried the decision, split by market, channel, and demographic. It sizes the group behind every driver, so you know what share of the market each one represents. Sena then reads what was available in the stores those consumers use, which tests whether a stated reason matches the choice they had.
